Research project HyPRO to optimize hydrogen production
02-10-2024
Optimizing four common electrolysis technologies
A consortium of almost twenty knowledge institutions and more than forty companies from the Netherlands and abroad will work over the next four years to optimize hydrogen technologies and significantly reduce the costs of producing green hydrogen. VoltaChem co-initiator TNO coordinates the project, to which various companies from the VoltaChem community contribute.
The project is financed from the growth fund. A total of 50.2 million euros in public (€34.5) and private (€15.7) money is available.
HyPRO is the largest research project ever in this field in North West Europe, with great interest from abroad. Companies from the United Kingdom, Italy, Denmark, France, Germany, Brazil, Japan and America are contributing, as well as 17 promising Dutch start-ups. The consortium represents users and producers of hydrogen, developers of components, suppliers of materials, producers of stacks and systems and system integrators. In this way, the entire hydrogen chain works together in HyPRO.
The consortium focuses on optimising the four common electrolysis technologies AEM, PEM, alkaline, SOE and, as a relative newcomer, plasma. Electrolysis is a technology that requires international cooperation. That is why TNO is providing expertise to the European projects CLEANHYPRO and PressHyous from the VoltaChem programme.
Voltachem brings together the energy sector, the chemical industry and the high-tech sector, thereby accelerating the development and application of new power-2-X technologies.
HyPRO strengthens the knowledge position of the Netherlands in hydrogen technologies, forms an incubator for new business and innovative products and thus contributes to the earning capacity of the Netherlands.
