Scaling up green hydrogen in collaboration with GroenvermogenNL

12-02-2025

Scaling up green hydrogen in collaboration with GroenvermogenNLTNO and the national Dutch sustainable hydrogen program GroenvermogenNL have agreed to cooperate in the field of electrolysis. A joint meeting on February 6 marked the start of a multi-year program focused on accelerating innovation and scaling up. This will take place in an open innovation center for electrolyzer development, starting with a facility for endurance testing.

The collaboration is unique in Europe and offers Dutch industry a significant opportunity to benefit from joint expertise and resources. GroenvermogenNL and TNO both already have large programs on green hydrogen, in particular the Voltachem business-driven Shared Innovation Program of TNO that focuses on new technologies and their implementation using renewable energy for the production of hydrogen, fuels and chemicals.

The collaboration includes both facilities and organizational power. A key aspect is to minimize the risks involved with large-scale deployment of electrolysis in the Netherlands. This involves assessing and combatting bottlenecks from a technical as well as a business economics perspective.

The main points of the program will be:

  • Bringing together the hydrogen supply chain;
  • Combining the strengths of validation facilities at each step and scale in electrolyzer development;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of standards, protocols and benchmarks;
  • Accelerating the common learning curve through advanced analytics, data analysis and machine learning;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of pilot plants.
