There is a fast-growing interest in green hydrogen mainly driven by 1) need for deep de-decarbonization in different sectors and 2) need for the grid integration of the increasing intermittent renewables.
Different Energy scenarios for 2030 and 2050 show an enormous growth of Hydrogen. However, with the current speed of development of the hydrogen supply chain, this ambition will not be met.
The frontrunners who are now developing initiatives and project plans are mainly: the network operators, the energy companies (with a growing offshore wind portfolio), (regional) governments, Industrial end-users.
The actual current green hydrogen market is very limiting. There are approx. 20 OEMers*of electrolyzers active in this field and their focus is to get involved in the first (subsidized) pilot projects.
A number of component and material suppliers who want to become active in the supply chain for water electrolysis are slowly positioning themselves. However, more firm outlooks and market requests are required to justify larger R&D investment.
